The Rock of Northwest Arkansas: Our Family

It doesn’t take long to realize through the reading of the Scriptures that family is of supreme importance to the expression of the Kingdom of Christ on earth. At The Rock of Northwest Arkansas, we believe this wholeheartedly.  Beginning with the first family of Adam and Eve and tracking through the Old Testament with Abraham and Sarah and on and on, family is integral to Yahweh’s divine intention for the earth to bring Him glory.  Even when Yahweh’s only option to redeem man was to send forth His only begotten Son into the earth from the portals of heavenly glory, He birthed Him into family. Interestingly, one of the last statements Yahweh made between the two covenants (old and new testaments) is Malachi 4:5 & 6: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.  And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” Again, how important is family to Yahweh’s glory?  Well, this same verse is repeated by an angel of LORD in Luke 1:15-17 pertaining to the birth of John the Baptist to Zecharias and Elizabeth: “For he (John the Baptist) will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.  And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.  He will also go before Him (Christ) in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient (children) to the wisdom of the just (fathers), to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Wow!  From this Scripture, preparation for people to receive Christ begins in the family.  In my opinion, family begins with a solid, spiritual joining between husband and wife and flows down to the children and affects generations to come.  That fact alone helps us to understand the attack against kingdom marriages and families.  In the past thirty-one years of ministry, of which the last fourteen have been spent at The Rock of Northwest Arkansas, most of the problems I’ve encountered with people began with rejection and offense, which originated in the family – especially with fathers. The Rock of Northwest Arkansas has several distinguishing directives and mandates which drive our culture, with strong families heading the list.  Our heart is to value what Yahweh values.  Therefore, we are convinced that stable and healthy kingdom marriages and united families are valuable to His Kingdom being established in the earth just as it is in heaven.  The Scriptures, old and new testament alike, speaks to the relationships of fathers and sons and their importance to Yahweh. “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”           Ephesians 3:14-21
